The United Bicycle Institute, located in Oregon, is making strides in increasing the number of women, transgender, and nonbinary individuals in the cycling industry by offering an annual scholarship, the Women’s Bike Mechanic Scholarship. Typically they receive about 300 applicants, but now they have up to 800.
UBI instructor B Vivit is quoted as saying, "These mechanics aren't just putting in the hours nine to five. They are also mechanics that have gone out into their communities and created programs where they're disseminating information." Read the full article.
