Let’s face it, we all want a new bike, right? There’s a reason someone came up with the N + 1 theory. But sometimes a new bike just isn’t in the cards (or budget). If you’re looking for some gift ideas that will fit inside of a stocking — or under the tree — we’ve included our own personal Christmas lists as suggestions. Do they resemble yours?
We’ve also included a jovial Christmas poem submitted by our good friend, fellow cyclist, and bikekitz fan, Bob Leach. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we did!
With love and Christmas Cheer, from Jennifer B. and Jennifer D.!

Dreaming of a Bike Christmas
‘Tis the night before Christmas, the weather is freezin'
As we cyclists still mourn the demise of our season;
Our shoes, shorts and jerseys are all packed away
Awaiting the dawn of a distant spring day
And our bikes are all nestled inside where it's dry
As we hope that cold weather will soon say goodbye…
Each night through the winter we sleep snug in our beds
While visions of bike rides glide by in our heads;
Along gentle valleys, over challenging hills,
Where daily the vistas reward us with chills,
We criss-cross the map from the spring to the fall
And ride away, ride away, ride away all!
On Giant! On Kestrel! And on Pinarello!
On Cannondale, Specialized, Trek and Cervélo!
On Fuji! On Scott! And even on Schwinn!
(But never on Huffy; 'Twould be such a sin.)
We hammer with buddies and click through our gears,
Then beribbon the package with one or two beers.
Happy dreams of these rides warm our hearts on cold nights
And sustain us through months of such wintry sights
As frost heaves and road cracks that’d make a nun swear
And bike lanes all buried beneath hard icy glare;
And since bikes fare so poorly in snow and on ice
Spinning or trainers indoors must suffice
Until crocuses poke through the snow without fear
To proclaim that we cyclists can start our new year.
Weathering the winter leaves us all at loose ends,
We miss shooting the breeze while on rides with fast friends;
And until our next ride we all fight the same battle
To keep fit and stay sane—too long out of the saddle!
Hours spent on our bikes, now in front of our tellies,
Makes winter a danger to most cyclists' bellies.
But spring can come quickly with the right frame of mind.
We play hard in the snow and read all we can find
About all the gear that we’re told we should buy,
Those pricey components that can make our bikes fly.
We’d love to find gifts like these under our tree
So we hint to our loved ones, then sit, wait and see
If under the tree we will find what we’d wished
Or if we’d been naughty...and made St. Nick’s list.
Christmas is but one stop in our ride ‘round the sun,
Each day can be special and not just this one.
It's all in the journey—the ride's its own reason,
As it’s the thought, not the gifts, behind the Yule season.
So these words are mere tokens to express what we hope,
That with friends and some laughs, the long winter we’ll cope.
Let's all wish that St. Nick treats us alright tonight,
And Merry Christmas to all! May your bike parts be light!
